The Day That It Was "An End To A Great Week"

Even though I am self employed, you still gotta love Fridays. The fact that you've made it through another crazy week is truly an accomplishment. Even though a crazy week, it was still great. I signed with a new agent, and I just love his energy. I think its gonna be great working with him. And I had two great auditions that I felt really good about. I delivered what I wanted and left it in the room. And the season finale of Grey's Anatomy was kick ass. I just love that show. Shonda Rhimes is the business. I can totally see myself at Seattle Grace playing Chandra Wilson's taller but younger sister. LOL One day ...

The Day That It Was "Finally Finished..."

I've learned that it is quite difficult to do things for yourself when you have a skill in high demand. I've been creating websites for several years now, and started when the internet was the new big thing. Even though its now an old big thing, there are still many of folks out there without a web presence. The funny thing is, is that when your most friends and family learn that you have such knowledge, they want (or matter fact) expect that you will hook them up with a $45 website. However, now that its my main source of income, the $45 "hook-ups" are a thing of the past.

So this week, after many years of putting it off and fixing and creating other people's websites, I've finally updated (one of) my own sites. www.tamikars.com. The old version was nice, more fancy with all the bells and whistles, but I felt it was time for something cleaner, simplier and user friendly for those that have the patience the size of a gnat. But now that, its finally finished, its back to doing everyone else's sites.

The Day That It Was "One Month In..."

This is my first blog entry. When it became popular, I always wondered, why in the heck do people do that. Just write random thoughts. And who in the heck in gonna read about how somebody found a cock roach in their cereal that morning. Needless to say, I did find a few blogs that I've become quite addicted to. (not everyday addicted) But once in a while, I will go back and check up on the entries. Bonnie Gillespie one of the queens of blogging. I just love her candidness, humor and the need to tell it like it is. She is truly awesome. I love her. Another is LA/NY actor Stephon Fuller. His long ass blog is truly comical. Whenever I'm having a crappy day, I go there and search for all of his "bat" stories and I'm smiling again. And its also given me some insight on the true hustle that it takes to make it in Hollywood. And I love how he always have a positive attitude about it. Thanx Stephon.

So with that in mind, I decided to start to write about my own journey.

It's been one month since I left my studio corporate 9-5 and took my leap of faith. Having a background in technology, I've been used to having a corporate job and job security. Its like a drug. But when you go cold turkey, whew ... man, its something. Its been an interesting month full of emotional ups and downs, but I'm still here. Working for myself and hustling like I never have before. I've gotten six freelance clients in April alone and more are coming in. Its been such a great learning experience to run myself (as an independent contractor and an actress) as a business. I know it will only get better from here.
